Alice's Pig

ENG – It's no longer a secret how much I love the brand called “Alice's Pig”, that's why I thought interviewing Amanda – Alice's Pig designer – was a good idea. So, here's the result... Hope you enjoy it! || IT – Ormai non è certo un segreto quanto mi piaccia “Alice's Pig”, perciò ho pensato che intervistare sul blog Amanda – la mente creativa del brand – fosse una buona idea. Quindi, ecco qua il risultato... Spero vi piaccia!

ENG – Why the name “Alice's Pig”?

Basically it's an extract from the original “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” novel, where Alice is welcomed to the Duchess’ house. Inside her kitchen, the Duchess's Cook is throwing dishes and making a soup that has too much pepper, which causes Alice, the Duchess, and her very ugly baby to sneeze violently. Then Alice is given the baby which is crying constantly by the Duchess and to her surprise, the baby turns into a very beautiful pig. So that's the conclusion, that there is beauty everywhere even if you don't look like a supermodel.

IT – Come mai il nome “Alice’s Pig”?

In sostanza, è un estratto dalla versione originale di “Le Avventure di Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie”, quando Alice viene accolta nella casa della Duchessa. Nella cucina, la Cuoca della Duchessa sta servendo piatti e preparando una zuppa che satura l’aria di pepe, costringendo Alice, la Duchessa e il suo bambino davvero brutto a starnutire violentemente. Successivamente la Duchessa affida ad Alice il piccolo che piange costantemente e, con grande sorpresa della ragazzina, il bambino si trasforma in un maialino davvero bello. Insomma, la conclusione è che la bellezza è dovunque, anche se l’aspetto esteriore non è quello di una top model.

ENG – Who's behind this name?

That's me (Amanda) and my brother Nicolai: as I'm responsible for design, development and production, Nico is the head behind sales marketing and e-commerce. 

IT – Chi si cela dietro questo nome?

Ci siamo io (Amanda) e mio fratello Nicolai. Io sono l’addetta al design, allo sviluppo e alla produzione, Nico invece è la mente celata dietro l’e-commerce e il piano di marketing.

ENG – When did you first start designing?

This is years ago... I kinda always designed stuff even if it used to be only very little amendments  on clothing or only dying stuff in different colors. When I still was in high school I was convinced at a very early stage that my career will lay in fashion.

IT – Quando hai iniziato a lavorare come designer?

Beh, anni fa… Diciamo che ho sempre fatto del design, anche se a volte si trattava solo di tingere in diversi colori o apportare qualche piccola modifica ai miei vestiti. Quando ancora ero al liceo ero sicura che ben presto la mia carriera sarebbe stata nella moda.

ENG – Who are your favourite designer? Did they inspire you and your clothing line?

Well I'm definitely a huge fan of Vivienne Westwood and her punk and pirates stuff... I find a lot of inspiration there, elegant punk clothing – how awesome is that?

IT – Chi sono I tuoi designer preferiti? Hanno ispirato te o la tua linea di abbigliamento?

Beh, di sicuro sono una grande fan di Vivienne Westwood e delle sue creazioni ispirate al punk e al mondo dei pirati… Trovo molta ispirazione nelle sue collezioni, eleganti abiti punk – quanto può essere stupendo?

ENG – What influences you during the creative process?

I'm watching a lot of movies and tv shows (recommended by Nico) from the past – It's just awesome when you see a dress you desperately want to have in your clothing line – so I'm always having a notebook ready. Sure afterwards I'm adding my own amendments to make sure that's wearable for today's time.

IT – Da cosa ti lasci influenzare durante il processo creativo?

Guardo moltissimi film e telefilm (consigliati da Nico) dei decenni passati – è semplicemente fantastico quando vedi un abito e capisci che vuoi disperatamente aggiungerlo alla tua linea di abbigliamento – quindi tengo sempre a portata di mano un quaderno. Ovviamente dopo aggiungo il mio tocco personale per essere sicura che quel capo sia indossabile anche ai giorni nostri.

ENG – Which is your Alice's Pig Fall 2013 favourite garment and why?

I love so many pieces of my first collection and I'm proud of all – I love to wear the “Black Pearl” dress to elegant occasions but I also like to dress that one with heavy boots on a dancing night out – It's sooo grungy, just awesome!

IT – Qual è l’abito che preferisci della collezione Autunno/Inverno 2013 di Alice’s Pig e perché?

Amo veramente tanti capi della mia prima collezione e sono orgogliosa di tutti quanti – adoro in particolar modo indossare l’abito “Black Pearl” per le occasioni eleganti, ma mi piace anche abbinare quello stesso vestito con gli anfibi per andare a ballare la sera – è così grunge, è meraviglioso!

 ENG – Can you disclose us something about your Spring/Summer 2014 new collection?

We were inspired by the grunge era for spring (think “Reality bites” and “Empire records”) and the mod era for summer (Edie Sedgwick and summer in France in the 60s).

IT – Puoi anticiparci qualcosa riguardo la vostra nuova collezione Primavera/Estate 2014?

Ci siamo lasciati ispirare dal grunge per la primavera (abbiamo pensato ai film “Giovani, carini e disoccupati” e “Empire records”) e dalla subcultura mod per l’estate (e quindi abbiamo immaginato Edie Sedgwick in Francia nell’estate degli anni ’60).

ENG - What are your plans for the future?

We have soooo many plans but we will definitely add more categories in terms of accessories. In spring we will introduce our fans with a brand new jewelry collection and hopefully we can add handbags soon.

IT – Quali sono i vostri piani per il futuro?

Abbiamo davvero tantissimi progetti ma di sicuro aggiungeremo una scelta più ampia in fatto di accessori. In primavera infatti proporremo ai nostri fan una collezione di gioielli nuova fiammante e molto presto, speriamo, potremo avere anche una nostra linea di borse.

ENG – Would you like to give an advice to aspiring designers?

Sure. Make something wearable out of your talent – and please be brave and proud enough to wear your creations... I met so many designers who refuse to wear their own clothing – I'll never understand that! ;-)

IT – Vorresti dare un consiglio agli aspiranti designer?

Certamente. Prendete il vostro talento e trasformatelo in qualcosa che sia realmente indossabile – e, per favore, abbiate abbastanza coraggio da indossare voi stessi le vostre creazioni... Ho conosciuto così tanti designer che si rifiutano di vestire coi capi della propria linea e non la capirò mai, questa cosa! ;-)
